Cooperativa Portabagagli del Porto boasts a history of more than 80 years and is one of the oldest lagoon realities.
Our story begins on June 1st, 1937, when Gruppo Portabagagli del Porto di Venezia was established with the obligation dictated by a royal decree to regulate the baggage handling service for ships moored in Venice.
These are the years of the great merchant ships and transatlantic liners that, in addition to goods, also carry passengers; the years of migrants seeking fortune towards the Americas and the years of the birth of elite tourism, heir to the 19th century grand tour. The port is one of the city bustle points and the Group is witnessing this particularly prosperous period for the city.
Over time, the activity has been structured in an ever increasingly complex way up to the current form of Cooperative Company, with about 150 operators including shareholders and employees. Venice is our home and 1937 is the year of our foundation. For this reason, in 2015 we created the Venezia 1937 brand that contains the image of the Marciano lion next to the profile of an elegant cruise ship – our two souls: the city and its port.
